Ian Sharps' 52nd-minute goal was enough to hand Tranmere maximum points in their clash with early League One promotion rivals Brentford at Prenton Park.
Neither keeper had a save to make in the first period as Chris Dagnall went closest for Tranmere with a shot that just cleared the outside out the post.
Brentford did have the ball in the net in the 33rd minute through Jamie Lawrence, but it was ruled out for a foul on John Achterberg.
Brentford missed a great opportunity to take the lead in the 50th minute when John Salako fired high and wide from a clear opening and Rovers went ahead two minutes later when Sharps headed in a great cross from Iain Hume.
It was a boost for Tranmere, who lost striker Dagnall with a cheek bone injury a minute before the goal after an accidental collision with his own player Ian Goodison.
There was a controversy in the 59th minute when Brentford had a penalty appeal down after Mark Rankin appeared to be brought down by Goodison.
Dagnall's replacement Calvin Zola then missed the target with two good opportunities in the 66th and 75th minutes.
The play was hot and disrupted in the second half when Brentford collected four cautions for Sam Sodje, Rankin, Lawrence and Deon Burton. Tranmere's Ryan Taylor also went in the book after Sharps was cautioned in the first period.
Taylor was outstanding for the winners and Sodje and Mike Turner were best for the visitors in central defence, but the result hinged on the two controversial decisions surrounding the disallowed Brentford goal and the penalty appeal.
