Wrexham 0 (0) Vs Brentford 3 (2)

Paul Evans, back in his own country had a good game – and went close early on. His free kick from the half way line had Wrexham keeper David Walsh scampering back and he was fortunate that his shot just missed the top of the goal.

Walsh was tested again after Owusu received the ball in the area. His poked shot produced a good save low to the keeper's right.

But Walsh could do little with the Bees next attack. The Bees won a free kick just inside the Welsh half. Dobson touched the ball to Paul Evans, who slammed a shot from 35-40 yards out which bounced of the wet surface and into the back of the net. Evo, was breathing down BBB and Owusu's necks once again!

The Bees had been fortunate ten minutes before the goal on the half hour mark. The Welsh side did well to get Dobbo isolated and a Wrexham attacked nipped past him to the byline. His pull back was precise – onto the feet of Darren Ferguson. A brave Bees defender superbly blocked Fergusons effort, but the danger wasn't clear. It fell to the feet of another Wrexham defender but Evans nipped into take the ball of his feet – the home crowd shouted penalty – as the ball was fired high over the bar.

The Bees nearly doubled the lead after excellent work by Martin Rowlands. Rolly, chased a ball, which pressurised the keeper. His kick was poor and BBB nicked into take the ball. He ran with it, and then threaded a perfect ball to Steven Hunt who had raced into the area. Hunt was denied by an excellent save.

But Brentford could not be denied minutes later. Evans played the ball to BBB on the left wing. BBB looked up, curled a magnificent ball into the back stick, when Rowlands had ran in and volleyed home. The delight was there to be seen – a class goal.

The game was as good as over by this point, but Wrexham battled backs strongly. They put pressure on the Bees goal, and in the 64th minute Waynne Phillips effort meant Smith was scampering along his line.

Rowlands hadn't scored all season until Bristol City last week, and he nearly doubled his tally in this game after another excellent ball by BBB after he dinked it into the back post. Rowlands had charged in, but with the ball at a difficult height, could only get his foot to the ball and it went high over the goal into the Brentford away end.

Brentford went close again after a Steven Hunt corner. The ball fell in the area and Sidwell who had an excellent game watched as his shot was blocked on the line. Surely it was a matter of time before the ball found the way into the back of the net again?

And it nearly did, but the wrong net. Ferguson, booed by the home fans, after the match ball sponsors named him MOTM took a corner, which bounced, around the area before Faulconbridge effort nearly crept into the net. Fortunately it just went wide for another corner.

Ferguson's corner was again delivered into the box, but this time was headed away by Ingimarsson. Ivar's clearance fell to 6'7 Trinidad centre back Dennis Lawrence. Lawrence looked in control of the situation, but Evo nipped in, took the ball off the defender looked up and then threaded the ball through to Rolly. It was just a matter for Rolly, to outpace the defender, run half the pitch and round the keeper to tuck home. Easy as said – and it was three.

Coppell took the opportunity to rest and give a number of players a few minutes. Owusu was replaced by O'Connor, Gibbs came on for Hunt (who is suspended for Tuesday match with Chesterfield) and Boxall making his first appearance for the Bees since his terrible injury at Kenilworth Road.

The Bees looked like they could score with every attack – and they nearly did so when Ijah Anderson, yes Ijah Anderson! Struck a fantastic shot which hit the post and rebounded back. So close – but it was irrelevant.

Brentford won easily and with news that Reading & Brighton had drew and Stoke had lost – it was nearly the perfect day!
